Fifth Annual DC Clay Festival Celebrating DMV Potters and Ceramic Artists
Hundreds of DMV residents will celebrate the amazing and creative talents of more than 25 DMV potters and ceramic artists at the fifth annual DC Clay Fest on Sunday, September 15, 2024, 11:00 - 4:00 pm. The featured artists will show and sell a variety of one-of-a-kind, functional, and decorative pieces. These outstanding potters and ceramic artists use a wide variety of surface treatments, techniques and styles to elicit different responses including joy, power, whimsy and energy from the viewers and users. The event will have free music and craft tables for all to enjoy.

Intersections of Fire
A Conversation About American Pottery, Bourbon, Fire, and Atmospheric Sciences

Join us as we discover how potters and distillers navigate the serendipitous relationship that fire, earth, and the atmosphere contribute to the unique finishing characteristics of both bourbon whiskey and pottery. Panelists will discuss these interconnections, and how they relate to the current ceramics exhibition, Random Bourbon Encounters, at Portico Gallery.
Panelists include Bourbon Steward Matt Weber, Climatologist Emerson LaJoie, and potters Michael Corigliano, and Joe Hicks.
Directly following the talk, we will tour the Random Bourbon Encounters Exhibition at Portico Gallery.

Join us for the return of our in-depth exploration with Joe Hicks of that most exciting and dynamic of glazes, CARBON TRAP SHINO.
During this half-day workshop on Saturday 9/18, participants will learn the mysteries of making, mixing, applying and firing Shino glazes. You will then glaze your work choosing between four Shino glazes and then load it into District Clay's reduction kiln for special carbon trap firing Saturday night.
You will also be invited to attend a special Kiln Opening on Tuesday, 9/21 to retrieve your pots and see and discuss the results of the firing.
